Your Beloved Pets and Vacations

Cape May NJ rental homesNobody really likes leaving their four-legged family members behind when they go away on vacation. It spoils a vacation somewhat to have to worry about how they are doing without you. Having your buddy or buddies with you to enjoy all of your fun adventures requires finding Cape May NJ rental homes that welcome animals.

Cape May NJ rental homes are plentiful and come in many different styles and sizes. Some are small and cozy while others are large and capable of sleeping more than 12 people. It is important to remember that as you are renting a vacation home, you must treat it as nicely as if it were your own home, if not even better. To ensure that happens there is usually a non-refundable pet deposit required on Cape May NJ rental homes that allow pets.

Pet friendly rentals accept only well-behaved animals to stay on the premises. Sometimes there are weight restrictions on the size of animal you can bring, but some have no limits at all. These are details you need to research before you make your reservations.

The Cape May NJ rental homes that allow pets are proud to be accommodating regarding your pets. Some will supply comforts like pet beds, bowls, toys and treats to help your loyal friend feel the most comfortable in an unfamiliar location. This area offers plenty of exciting outdoor attractions that your buddy can participate in, like hiking, beach visits, and sports. There are pet-friendly restaurants in the area too.

Finding Your Vacation Rental

Cape May Point rentalsEscaping to Cape May, New Jersey, for a vacation is a sure way to have fun while getting that much needed time away from it all. Due to the fun-filled events and recreational activities available on our New Jersey beaches, Cape May Point rentals are a popular place for families and singles alike and this time of year the temperatures are milder and the crowds have thinned out.

If you prefer, you could coordinate with a travel agent to find you a suitable rental. You could also send for brochures from the Chamber of Commerce here, get referrals from friends or check out different online travel guides for recommendations about such vacation places.

Victorian Style Vacation Homes

Cape May vacation homesOn the southern tip of New Jersey sits the beautiful town of Cape May. Cape May is a peaceful, relaxing town, with a historic atmosphere. A very popular seaside resort in the 1800s when many people built unique and artistic cottages all along the shore. Many of these homes are used as Cape May vacation homes still today.

Over the years residents have taken a great deal of time and effort to maintain and restore these cottages and put them to use as Cape May vacation homes. The Victorian style architecture of that time is still prevalent today and you can see it everywhere in the establishments and homes in the area.

Cape May also has a very “small town” feel, which makes it very different from the other beach towns in the area. While Cape May maintains that small town feel, there is still an abundance of things to do close to all of the Cape May vacation homes. Many lovely shops and over 40 different restaurants, plus all there is to do at the beach and on the ocean help make Cape May an excellent east coast getaway!

Fall Birding in Cape May

The Nature Conservancy near Cape May Point State Park is famous for attracting various species of birds, as well as bird watchers. One birder in particular, Tom Reed a 23 year old man from Middle Township, is well on his way to setting the record for the most species of birds spotted in New Jersey in one year. Reed shattered the current record set in 2002 by Rick Wiltraut of Pennsylvania at 337 by already identifying 342 species.Fall Birding in Cape May
Although a resident of Upper Township, MikeFritz, has identified 340 different birds this year, Tom Reed remains undeterred. Young Mr. Reed is still on a quest to set the bar and, due to his observations taking place at the Lower Cape May Meadows we feel he has a pretty good chance. The positioning of the Atlantic Flyway path (the migratory path where birds cross and concentrate) along the southern New Jersey coastline offer the best odds in Reed’s favor.
If you’re a budding birder or an experienced one, HomeStead Cape May Rentals can find you the perfect interim migration spot for your family this fall. Call to speak to our knowledgeable agents at 888-309-7454 or email us at View our website at

September Crabbing

What a gorgeous month September can be at the shore. The ocean water is the warmest of the season, beaches are less crowded, and crabs are fattening up before burrowing into the mud for the winter. Doing some crabbing over Labor Day weekend with my family, although we only caught a few because the current was fierce, we returned with enough to enjoy for dinner. While we were out there we saw bait fish jumping out of the water, and minnows swam right next to our boat.

Some folks enjoy catching good shots of the marshes and meadows in pictures more than catching crabs, and I have to admit I’m one of them. The raw beauty of salt water wildlife can be enchanting. It’s peaceful and calm and you can leave your cares behind if only for a little while.

Here at HomeStead our friendly reservation agents can help you find the perfect home while you visit the Jersey Shore in the fall, or any time of year. Visit If you’ve been contemplating owning a home at the shore, the knowledgeable agents at can guide you through the process. HomeStead professionals are the Cape May Experts.
