Summer Send Off!

It’s that time of year again. Labor Day is just around for corner and the faint smell of autumn is present in the early morning air. Another summer is coming to a close here in Cape May. But that doesn’t mean the fun stops! Actually, some of the best beach days of the season can be found in September! The subtropical humidity typically subsides, and most days are full of crisp sun and warm temperatures! Nights cool off nicely, allowing for perfect beach walks or strolls on the mall after dinner. Sun Autumn
With school back in session, the weekday crowds thin out a bit and you may find yourself sharing the beach with a local or two, catching up on some relaxation after a busy summer! The slower pace can also be enjoyed in the restaurants and shopping areas. And while some proprietors do close for a day or 2 as September rolls on, most businesses remain open 7 days per week throughout the month!

Late August and September weekends in Cape May are a truly bustling time, filled with activities for the entire family. On the weekend of Saturday, August 29th, set sail on New Jersey’s Tall Ship, the A.J. Meerwald. This is a great opportunity to learn more about our local environment, and also a bit about sailing! Sails are 2.5 hours long and depart Utch’s Marina here in town.

After an afternoon on the water or at the beach, you may wish to spend your evening relaxing at the Rusty Nail and listening to the sounds of The Kate Delaney Duo! A local favorite, Kate will be performing music inspired by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Janis Joplin in the perfect environment of the Rusty Nail’s open air setting. CSV Rev War

Other events of note include a Revolutionary War Encampment/Reenactment program at Historic Cold Spring Village, and the 23rd annual summer send off Craft Show on the Promenade, both of which will take place on Sunday August 30th.

On Saturday, September 5, The West Cape May Tomato Festival is not to be missed! Located in beautiful Wilbraham Park, the festival celebrates the end of the summer season and offers some of the best tomatoes in the country! It is also a free event! The A.J. Meerwald is back in town for this weekend, as well as many other favorite events!Tomato

So you see, there is no reason to lament the end of summer in Cape May. Not when it means gorgeous weather, a plethora of fun activities, and a lazier, tranquil pace that draws some attention away from the beach and towards all of the other fabulous aspects of town!
