Spring’s Sprung In Cape May!

Little bit by little bit, Cape May is coming out of a long winter’s nap.  Retail stores and restaurants once quiet for the winter, open their doors and the town starts humming with activity. Then the crocuses and daffodils pop up, followed by tulips and hyacinths.

The birds make their presence known too with flocks of robins, juncos, Carolina wrens, sparrows and swallows. But the most prevalent species indigenous to Cape May — the contractor vans — flock to our fair city, signaling the preparations for the upcoming season.

It’s a busy time, and events start to populate the calendar, drawing visitors to our hamlet.  For the young and agile, the Cape May Convention Center offers roller skating in a number of sessions.  Click here for specific times and pricing!

Tamburitzans

Also at Convention Hall on Beach Avenue are two concerts: The Duquesne University Tamburitzans on Sunday, March 22nd and then on Saturday, April 4th, Cape May welcomes Deana Martin performing a tribute in song to her father, Dean Martin, and also to her “uncles,” Sammy Davis Jr., and Frank Sinatra. It is sure to be a celebration of these great singers and The Great American Songbook.

Cape May’s music scene is vast and you’ll find live music in venues throughout the area. A very popular venue is the Willow Creek Winery, which has its weekly “Firepit Fridays” featuring a crackling fire outside, and inside local musicians entertain while you enjoy the comfy couches, fireplace, delicious tapas and signature wines.

If it’s theater you like, our local Equity theater troupe, East Lynne Theater Company offers its popular vintage-radio style productions of Nick Carter and Sherlock Holmes mysteries on Friday and Saturday, March 20th and 21st.  Advance ticket purchases are encouraged, as this very often sells out.

HOLMES

And there’s more!  On March 27-28th, wepatty-larkin welcome the 8th annual Singer Songwriter Weekend, with over 150 independent singer-songwriters performing in 15 venues throughout Cape May.  There will be more music to hear than you can imagine, so to help you plan your weekend, visit the event website and take a listen to these troubadours. One of the headliners of the event is Patty Larkin, a guitar wizard and accomplished songwriter.
